The Geek’s Spyware Nuker Review:

With an estimated 8.6 million users worldwide Spyware Nuker’s popularity speaks for itself. It’s created by TrekBlue, which is a software company that specializes in personal security and convenience applications for PC.  Their large amount of users allows them to be very effective at detecting new spyware and adware applications and their massive database of spyware and adware definitions is quite impressive.

With Spyware Nuker 2004 and Spyware Nuker 2005 there were several issues with it not detecting threats like Trojans and keyloggers. The latest version, Spyware Nuker XT, these issues seems to be resolved and it’s up there with the best now in terms of eliminating all forms of adware and spyware.

Spyware Nuker XT is incredibly easy to use and although it’s not the sexiest interface, it requires no “training” to figure out how to use it. Spyware Nuker has very effective deep scan capabilities and will scan your folders, files, your memory and your windows Registry to detect potential threats.

It’s light weight and does not suck up a lot of system resources which would normally just slow your PC down. It’s best feature is it’s Active Protect which prevents your system from even becoming infected in the first place. It tracks the execution of every program at the kernel-level which is the lowest level. Active Protect will run silently in the background, protecting any potential infections while you work away or surf the web.

Another great feature is Spyware Nuker’s INAC Startup Manager which allows you to see exactly which applications are loaded into your memory. If your computer is slowed down by spyware or adware, then this will allow you to see exactly what’s sucking up your computer’s resources.

One of the things that does bug me with Spyware Nuker is the fact that it’s not that great with scanning infected systems. If you’ve been running an unprotected computer for a while and you have a lot of infections, you might have to run their cleaning process several times to get rid of all the spyware and adware on your PC.

In addition to this the scanning process can be quite slow and you can’t run any applications while you are running a scan. The whole process gets a bit frustrating after 2 hours, but nonetheless Spyware Nuker is a great tool for ongoing spyware and adware protection. The daily updates are automatic and you can schedule regular scans which makes it completely hands-free.

best1 Best Features:

•  Provides spyware protection at the root (kernel) level of your computer

•  Scans every “dark corner” of your computer – files, folders, memory, registry and even running processes

•  Active Protect which provides excellent real-time protection against potential threats

•  Excellent Support System which is integrated with the software and automatically sends scan logs with your support requests. (great feature when you encounter a really pesky piece of adware or spyware)

•  Daily updates happen automatically and scanning can be scheduled to make it run hands-free

•  Extra features to protect you against credit card theft and hackers

•  Integrates seamlessly with Error Nuker (TrekBlue’s registry repair tool)

worseWorse Features:

• The scans can be quite slow and eliminating more obscure threats can take some time

• The Active Protect feature only works with Windows 2000, XP and Windows Vista

• When running a full system scan you cannot use your computer – you have to close all applications

• Some users reported that certain Keyloggers and Trojans went undetected by Spyware Nuker

• They will try and sell you on their other software via email (you can opt-out by sending them an email)

• Better at removing Spyware than it is at removing Adware.
